What Causes Cavities

When diet is a caries (Cavity) risk factor for my patients, my best tool is patient education. I try to tailor this conversation to their specific dietary habits. And I also try to make this information more thoughtful than “don’t eat sugar” but simple enough so they understand it. I generally have 2 things that I want them to understand: 1. Sugar doesn’t cause cavities – ACID causes cavities and 2. Sugar FREQUENCY is more critical than the amount.
